Being away from the man she loved was starting to wear on Christa. She understood it was part of his job now, but it didn’t make her any less lonely. Brian meant the world to her, and he was the one person who understood her and had been there when Bates had tried to hurt her.

Luckily, Morgan seemed to know something was going on with Christa and suggested she go up to the Spacedock to visit Brian. Surprising him seemed like a good idea and Christa found out his schedule, wanting to arrive shortly before he got off shift.

With help from Morgan’s father, Christa was soon up there and waiting in Brian’s quarters. She had brought his favorite food from his favorite diner, along with a few other things. It was a five star dinner, but it was good enough for the time of them.

She was lounging on his bed, flipping through a magazine when he finally came in. Christa grinned when she saw the look of surprise on his face.

“Hey you,” she said as she pushed herself off the bed and went over to him.

“Hey yourself. How did you get in here?” Brian asked, his hands going to her hips so he could tug her closer.

“It’s a secret. I needed to see you so here I am,” Christa said as she snaked her arms around his neck.

Brian gave her a look of concern and pulled her even closer. “Did something happen?” he asked.

“No. I just missed you,” Christa said as she moved so her body was pressed against his. “I haven’t seen you for over two weeks.”

“And I’m sorry about that, baby,” Brian said before he captured her lips in a deep kiss. When they parted, he ran his fingers through her hair and smiled. “Forgive me?”

“Always,” she whispered.

Taking his hand, Christa led him over to the table, where she unpacked the food she’d brought. As they ate, they discussed Halloween and Christa frowned when Brian told her he had to the work the night of the Academy’s party. But he promised they would do something the following night, and Christa forced a smile and nodded.

After eating, they found their way to Brian’s bed, where they made love until it was time for Christa to leave. She dressed and kissed him goodbye, promising to send him a PADD message when she got back to her room.

As she walked to the transporter room, she found herself crying. She hated that they were always apart. While she didn’t want to seem like a clingy girlfriend, Christa wanted to spend more time with him, but it seemed it would never happen. Instead of spending more time together, it seemed they were spending more time apart. And she hated it.

When she got back to Earth, she made her way to her room, where she found Morgan asleep already. She quietly dressed into her pajamas - one of Brian’s old t-shirts - and picked up her bag, which she took to the bathroom. Sitting down on the toilet, she pulled a hypo out of her bag and stared at it.

The man who’d sold it to her said it would help her forget about all her problems. It was a temporary fix, she knew, but she needed it. She needed to forgot that the man she loved was going to leave her someday. Maybe Brian thought they would stay together, but Christa wasn’t stupid and she knew they wouldn’t last. No long distance relationships did.

With the hypo against her skin, she pressed the button and closed her eyes as the drug filled his blood. Pulling it away, she put the hypo in the recycle bin and stood up before going back to the main room and crawling into bed.

It wasn’t long until her body relaxed, her limbs feeling like jelly, and she closed her eyes. Moments later, she was falling into a deep sleep, where she dreamt of light and love.

Maybe it was only a temporary fix but for a few hours, she was truly happy.
