HIStory3 - Trapped
Still love Trapped. No, even more in love with it. Eye candy (so much of it!) aside, I like how the romantic story is unfolding, because I'm an absolute sucker for romance, and even the gangster plot (what little of it so far) is mostly ok, with a hints of mysterious vendettas and a couple of attempted assassinations. All part of the fantasy-drama gangster genre.
Things I really liked in this week's episodes: How direct Meng Shao Fei, the detective, is. He's been somewhat aware of his growing attraction to Tang Yi, and last week, there were a few "I'm jealous, so what?" moments without him coming right out and saying it. Then he was hospitalised for a gunshot wound, and I think the moment he woke up and saw Tang Yi there, the whole thing crystallised for him. The little scene where Tang Yi sat by his bedside was lovely - and so coupley.
Which means the moment he was mobile, he proclaimed his love and kissed Tang Yi, which was wildly beyond expectations because I think loads of people were expecting Tang Yi to take the lead (and also because the teaser was misleading like whoa).
Also in episode 12, two things: One, in the flashback when Tang Yi recalls his mentor advising him to find someone to love, there was absolutely no mention of finding "a nice girl", which is a pretty typical phrase but so annoyingly heteronormative and sexist, as though the role of a woman is to be a civilising influence, etc, etc. Either the mentor already knew Tang Yi was gay/bisexual or just naturally spoke in neutral terms... well, it's nice. Two, when Meng Shao Fei's junior protests about his attraction to Tang Yi (made public by way of ANOTHER kiss), it was "he's a gangster!" and not "he's a man!" She confesses to being attracted to him, and he's all, "I know, but I have Tang Yi now." Heart flutter.
Speculations: Going by what Tang Yi's mentor said to him, could it be that it is Tang Yi that leaves his gang instead?
Oh, and Taiwan just legalised gay marriage. So the pairing in HIStory 2 could totally have a wedding ceremony, since they'd already agreed to get married by the last episode.
