So yesterday we got two awesome packages!
One was my
BPAL order of samples. ♥ Since the only other scents I have were free samples picked up at SakuraCon (Snake Oil and O), I'm pretty excited to have scents that I chose for myself and can compare my impression of what they would smell like according to the description and what they actually do smell like. I'm a complete BPAL n00b, so this is all very new and exciting for me. X3
For samples, you can pick six for $22 (samples are $4.00 apiece singly). I chose Kitsune-Tsuki, Venice, Villain, The Unicorn, Viola and Lysander (for obvious reasons, lol), and they sent me Iambe and Morocco as extras. I knew they they included free imps (samples) with their orders, but I wasn't sure if they'd do it for an order that was all samples. Apparently so, which is pretty excellent.
My overall impression? I pretty much like every BPAL scent so far. XD
Kitsune-Tsuki
Their description: Kitsune-Tsuki are malevolent Japanese spirits, akin to western werebeasts: women are possessed by the spirits of foxes, who compel them to perform acts of wickedness and mischief. Asian plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine and white musk.
My impression: it's very very light, sweet and flowery. I haven't tried it on yet, but sweet scents tend to get sweeter on me, so that's fine. I'm a little worried it's going to disappear into my skin right away, though.
Venice
Their description: A complex, voluptuous scent that captures the robust beauty and of the Italian Renaissance: lemon, red currant, wisteria, red rose petals, heady jasmine, Florentine orris root, waterlily, red sandalwood, violet plum, and violet leaf.
My impression: In the bottle it's also somewhat sweet and flowery - heavy on the jasmine and violet - but more spicy. On me the violet comes out really strongly, which is fine with me, since I love violet. It fades within an hour or two, though.
Villain
Their description: A classic Victorian men's cologne: a lavender fougere, with hints of lilac, lime, and citrus musk.
My impression: In the bottle it pretty much smells just like the description - the lavender and citrus are the most stand-out scents. I haven't tried it since I pretty much got it for wearing with crossplay. XD It's pretty manly-smelling, but not so strong that I don't like it, which is good since I usually can't stand men's cologne.
The Unicorn
Their description: A misty, almost luminous perfume: wispy linden blossoms, white flowers, and a touch of sweet herbs.
My impression: In the bottle it's light and powdery/floral, and almost a little citrusy. On me it smells sweet somehow. XD But also very floral. It's the most "perfumey" of the bunch. It fades really fast; my skin just swallows it up. It's nice though, very girly.
Viola
Their description: Gentle tea rose, lilac, Calla Lily, and Somalian Rose layered over golden Peruvian amber, Spanish moss, red sandalwood, rosewood, and myrrh, with the lightest touch of Mandarin.
My impression: Super rosy! With a hint of sandalwood and amber. Jess really likes it. I think I'll like it better on me than in the bottle. It's another very girly scent.
Lysander
Their description: The course of true love never did run smooth. Lilac musk, tonka, wood violet, and urbane lime rind, with a Venus-kissed tangle of myrtle, blackberry leaf, and benzoin.
My impression: In the bottle it's woodsy and faintly floral with a musky overtone. On me it's mostly just woodsy. XD It's a very warm, autumn-y scent, so I think I'll be saving it for cooler weather.
Iambe
Their description: Daughter of Pan and Echo and dear friend to Demeter. When Demeter was mourning the abduction of her daughter, Iambe was the only creature in heaven and earth that was able to lend cheer and laughter to the grieving mother. Her scent is one of comfort, beauty and joy: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea.
My impression: In the bottle it smells mostly like the amber, with a bit of spicy floral. On me it's very floral/amber. Pretty close, actually.
Morocco
Their description: The intoxicating perfume of exotic incenses wafting on warm desert breezes. Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia.
My impression: In the bottle it's very sweet and musky with sandalwood overtones. It smells tropical somehow. XD On me it's even sweeter and a little. . . nutty almost? It might the musk. It's really nice though. I'm pretty happy to have gotten it as an extra, as it's just my kind of scent.
I really really hope they come to Kumoricon. I want to buy some of their limited perfumes (Good Omens y/y?) and about ten thousand more samples. ♥
The other awesome package that we got was the
Violet we won from Soom! Um. Yeah. If anyone didn't already know, we won the drawing that Soom did last year for people who bought the monthly dolls. We won a free doll! It's pretty crazy. I never win things, so I'm chalking it up to Jess's good luck (and several splits). Anyway, so she arrived yesterday; there are a few pictures but they're not uploaded yet.
She came with
this wig and Soft Black soom eyes (they're grey with a hint of yellow), and those pretty much became her defaults. She came with the default faceup too, and I was pleasantly surprised by how ridiculously cute she is. We don't really know what her name is going to be or anything; we're still getting over the surprise of having this random tiny around. Her and Sasha pretty much look like they're going to immediately be rivals. XD
Ramble ramble ramble ~ we had a fairly excellent day, went to lunch at Cafe Akroteri and then BeckyE came over to pick up the Bygg that Jess painted for her on commission. Hopefully I can store up all this niceness against the coming time when I don't have anymore two-day weekends.
