Ava loved the design of the seventy-two storey Bank of China building and of International Finance Centre, with its auspicious eighty-eight storeys. But her favourite building was Jardine House; every time she saw it, she smiled. At fifty-two storeys it wasn’t as imposing as many others, but but it had a distinctive feature: 1700 identical circular windows. Those windows had prompted the local population to nickname the building “the House of a Thousand Arseholes”. That name came to Ava’s mind every time she saw the building, and it did so again, prompting yet another smile.”
