West Bank Settlements
Do you think that Israel should continue to expand settlements in the West Bank after the Gaza withdrawal?
I personally think that they should stop expanding the settlements, for two reasons:
1) it substantiates the claim by the Palestinians that the Gaza withdrawal will allow Israel to strengthen its hold on the West Bank. i think Israel has a pretty tight grip on the West Bank already, anyway, so there's no need to really to expand them.
2) if Israel should be increasing it's populations in any region, it should be in the Golan Heights. i've heard talk that Israel may be considering the return of the Golan Heights to Syria in return for a peace treaty. i think this would be a major mistake because it would give Syria control over the River Jordan, which is where much of Israel's water comes from. not to mention the fact that it is an extremely important strategic point.
any thoughts?
