I believe that the latest news proved that the disengagement really created a quiet place for the Palestinians to prepare their doubtful activity more throughoutly. Some extreme leftists believe that people that are raised their entire life in hatred against other nation will leave their violent ways and become doctors and teachers. Tell me people, what the hell will Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders and peons do if Israel gives Palestinians everything they want? They have no idea about anything else, but violence. A good example is Hezbollah leaders. When Israel got out of Lebanon, they invented new ideology of freeing the "occupied" Galil and Hula valley. Otherwise they would not be able to maintain their political and military power in Lebanon.
It is clear that the Palestinian guerrillas will demand the occupied Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa in a case of a full disengagement from the territories.
People have to understand that the difference between the Saratsins and Arabs is only the weapons quality. They are still stuck in the 12th century when human life was dispensable and there was no other way but to pound on the rebels until they could not raise their heads.
Palestinians have an interesting history with the Arab leaders as well. Jordan's famous Black September, when about 10,000 Palestinians were killed. Egypt was and is still struggling with them. Even the mentioned above Hezbollah was fighting them in the late 70's early 80's. Perhaps the problem is the Palestinian mentality rather than anything else?
However, everyone is discussing Israel. People have to realize the the world shut up when Arabs were eliminating this nation. It is understandable - after all, what can you do with dictatorships? Now when a truly Democratic country is involved - everyone has an opinion.
The problem of Israel is that it is too small and too close to them. This country can not take an example from colonial Europe. It can not leave Gaza or the West Bank and forget about these places. These places will be swarming with militants (the way many ex-colonies in Africa are still ripped by violence, just no one gives a damn about it.)
There is no solution. Give them land - they want more of it. Give them money - they will put it in their personal Swiss bank accounts or spend it on Semtex. Israel lives with a hungry rotweiller chained to it and there is no way to sooth the beast.
