G1 phone update

I've had my G1 (aka the "Google phone") for a couple of months now. I promised various people I would provide an update on how it's working out.

Short answer: I can't imagine how life existed on this planet before this device was available. :)

This is the first PDA-phone I've ever owned, so perhaps I'm easily impressed. But both the range of features offered and the slickness of their integration are astonishing. Cruising along PCH (in the passenger seat) using the GPS map integration to find an obscure turnoff two weekends ago was a great example of the transcendent geeky glory of this phone.

My one criticism is that the battery life is awful. I only get around two or three hours of use out of it, and even sitting idle it lasts only a day or so. With my particular usage pattern this isn't usually a problem, but it nearly bit me at LAX over the holidays, when an unexpected delay had me away from a charger for many hours, during which I had to trade lots of phone calls, emails, and texts. I came disturbingly close to running out of power.

Oh, and my darling daughter madelineusher  is not quite as pleased as I am...but she has the developer model of the phone, so perhaps that explains the difference.
