Toy time
I picked up my new home computer last night. It rocks my world. 2.6 GHz dual-core CPU, half a terabyte of disk space, 2 GB of memory, good sound and graphics cards...it's nice having a machine I can be proud of again. My one config worry was the USB wifi device, but it's working like a charm, and delivering much better network performance than the old system had.
There's still a lot of work ahead getting various hardware and software plugged in -- including setting up Ubuntu/XP dual boot when Ubuntu 7.10 comes out later this week -- but all the major hurdles are jumped. It's sitting at home right now, cranking out SETI@Home work units at a breathtaking pace. Happiness is a warm computer.
