What day is it, boy?

It's been a good holiday so far. Midnight Mass at LVX was wonderful; it was Tony's first time as Priest (working with the divine magdalena_lvx as Priestess) and he was very nervous beforehand. But you'd never know it from his performance, which was fervent and nearly letter-perfect, marred only by an unfortunate loss-of-headgear incident caused by his over-enthusiastic bowing. It was also great getting to see preciouspanda8 and maeghanne paired up as the Children; not surprisingly, they balance perfectly and beautifully.  And phosteres has always been one of my favorite Deacons; she and I share precisely the same esthetic sense about how the role should be performed, and she manifests that esthetic with grace and power, so it's a deep pleasure to watch her at work.  This April she and I will be doing the Mass together, hurray!  Turnout for a midnight Mass on a holiday that technically speaking isn't even ours was amazing; it was the best-attended LVX Mass in many months.  I have the feeling that an annual tradition has been born.

Today was about my immediate family, notably the Recipient of Incomprehensible Gifts, madelineusher.  She got roughly equal amounts of advanced electronic toys and anime-related tchochkes, and seemed well pleased.  I was more than a little startled to discover that her new GameBoy thingie has WiFi connectivity built in.  O brave new world!  This evening we built a fire, relaxed with our beverages of choice for a while, then laurellady read The Donkey's Dream aloud, a Christmas tradition going back to madelineusher's infancy, for which I believe we have Helena to thank.  It makes us all cry every year.

Tomorrow we set off over the river and through the woods for a belated visit to Grandmother's house, making up for the Thanksgiving visit which was scrubbed due to illness.  I'm looking forward to seeing my sister's baby Kylie again -- she's nearly six months old now, so all kinds of interesting behaviors and personality quirks are starting to surface.  Six months is such a great age.
