So, we were given permission by the landlords to paint. Mainly because we were rushed out of the old place and they never really finished working on the house here. So we're doing small improvements and whatnot in exchange for money taken off the rent.
They used one room as an office because it has built in bookcases. Spike and decided to use it as the Master Bedroom because it's cooler than the rest of the rooms as it's shaded and on the East, so it doesn't get the afternoon sun.
They painted the room these two colors.
As you can see, I had started to apply primer on the walls when I took the picture.
In the other house, we were going to paint the bedroom Valspar's Chinese Lacquer Red. We debated for three weeks, placing paint chips all over the bedroom. I knew I wanted an Eastern color, exotic, more Moroccan or India, but Spike didn't like the oranges or reds that came with the spice colors I had chosen.
He did like the Chinese Lacquer Red so once we were decided and getting ready to buy the paint, we had to move. We then decided to paint the same color here at the Puyallup house.
It's not done yet, we ran out of painter's tape to edge with so I can't finish painting the first coat, but this is what it looks like so far...
We're keeping the trim white, but we're arguing about the ceiling. It has high ceilings, I wanted to paint them the same color as the walls. He wants to keep them white. We'll probably tape paint chips on the walls again until we decide on a ceiling color.
The pictures don't do the color justice. It's a very rich color that I absolutely love. However, now I have to save my money to buy bedding that matches. LOL.
The room we're using right now as a bedroom will become a guest room and dressing room since the Master Bedroom has a very small walk in closet. We'll probably use it as my closet and Spike can still use the large one in the guest/dressing room, as well as for storage.
We're debating on the hall and stairwell color, which will extend into the entryway. Right now the hall, stairwell, entry and living room are all a beige color.
Spike wants a cool yet welcoming color, in the blue or teal color group, which I wouldn't mind. Although, since the house was built in 1920, I want to find colors that go with the time frame.
The flooring will probably be carpeted upstairs and on the stairs to quiet the squeaky floorboards, although Spike is thinking of sealing the floor with varnish to effectively "glue" the boards together to keep them from rubbing and squeaking. Personally, I'd rather see P-lam or laminate flooring. However, he doesn't want to have to bullnose each and every stair edge. Hmm, I wonder if carpeting the stairs and then laminate flooring in the hall upstairs would work? We don't wear shoes in the house so carpet on the stairs would be safer when one runs around in socks, and quieter since Pixie-Brat likes to stomp up the stairs when she's mad.
