Otherwise, known as the Falconry Exam...
SOOOOOOooo...LOL.
Went in a bit early. Half an hour early. Checked in. Big old grin on my face. The lady behind the desk took one look at me and grinned back.
I say, "I'm a bit early, but I have a 3 o'clock falconry exam."
She says, "If you're ready, I'll take you back now, no problem."
So I say, "Sure! Not sure if I'm mentally ready, but no time like the present."
She laughs and gets the test and leads me back to an empty room. She sits me down and tells me, "You have 75 minutes, and don't write in the book. Be sure to check the back of the answer sheet too. Most people think they're done and don't realize there's a written part on the back, and sign it."
I nod and sit down, arrange the booklet and the sheet, taking a few deep breaths. She chuckles and says, "Relax...deep breaths. I'll check on you every few minutes."
I laugh and say, "I've been studying more months and I know the stuff, it's just that anxiety of the whole thing."
She says, "I find that the first answer that pops into your head tends to the the right one. Go with your instinct."
So she leaves me alone and I take the test.
I stressed for that? 200 some questions....it alternates between sections of multiple choice and match the term with the definition...
What really got me the most were the regulations...I know I missed a few of those. One question that threw me off was...(paraphrasing the question)...
You are an apprentice and your first bird dies. You should:
Bury the bird, making sure to bury it deep as to avoid scavengers.
Contact your local Game Department to get instructions on the disposal of the carcass.
Some other one I can't remember.
I erred on the side of caution and went with the second one. (They didn't have the option to "call your sponsor to cry on his/her shoulder". =)
The other one was something like...(paraphrasing the question..) You just trapped your first bird. You must send in your I-386A form...
24 hours
5 days
A couple of other answer choices I can't remember...
I erred on the side of caution and went with 24 hours. Hell, the sooner the better, right? LOL. I know what the answer is though. I just blanked on it while I was there.
One question that I disliked immensely was...(and this is paraphrasing because I don't remember the exact question....)
You just trapped your bird and brought it home. You should:
Put a hood on it and put it in a quiet, dimly lit place.
Put it on a perch and in a well lit, active area to begin the manning process.
Some other choices I can't remember, but I knew were not the right answer.
I went with put it on a perch in an active area...ALTHOUGH...really, choosing the answer depends on your school of thought in regards to manning the bird. I have a feeling that one will be wrong but I went with what *I* will be doing. LOL.
Anyway...I was done in 35 minutes, maybe 40 minutes tops. The moment the door was closed, nervousness went away...but now it's back because I have to wait until the results are in. It'll be mailed today down to the Olympia office...who knows when Eric will get to correcting it. I'll send him an email on Friday to "urge" that ball into rolling a little faster.
