Mid August

It seems like since working from home there is more work than ever before. I saw some movies recently, notably OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies which I loved. I think tomorrow I'm going to see The Last Mistress. Rachel is extremely interested in me having an awesome birthday, prompting her to give me a present every day until Tuesday. So far I have received an awesome design book I've been wanting, some vacuum sealed canisters, weed, awesome beer, and a magnetic letter/key holder shelf from the container store.

In the mean time I bought my DREAM turntable. I have been lusting over the Bang Olufsen Beogram RX2 for years. It's on display in MoMA's permanent collection. I got an amazing deal on it from a local guy who is going to Congo to do humanitarian work and has no use for his stereo. He wanted to sell it a few months ago, then he flaked because his brother wanted it. Turns out his brother came across another Beogram elsewhere, after he'd already taken this one to Audio Craft and had it rewired, rebalanced and the stylus cleaned.  It's basically perfect condition except for a few light scratches / normal wear and tear on the lid. Usually the ones I see on eBay have broken hinges. It automatically detects the size of your record by weight and chooses the appropriate speed. I had a minor freak out, when I got it hooked up it was the sound of a whisper, but thanks to Ms. Hilary I was able to rectify the situation with a preamp. Rachel's roomie was sweet enough to give me a coupon that got me $20 off too!

I decided now that I can actually listen to records again (I hadn't hooked up my other turn table yet) it was time to finally paint my book case so I'd have a place other than sterilite bins for my records.  We listened to Stereolab's Refried Ectoplasm and Fab Four Suture and read the latest Domino and Martha Stewart Living. (Not the one pictured.)

We finally finished Six Feet Under. Rachel got me Mad Men Season 1 for my birthday so we started watching that since she hasn't seen it. Also Eric had a dinner party Friday with lots of good food. Now I'm waiting for some mail, a Michael Ruhlman book and the Waiter Rant book from Amazon and some Los Campesinos! records.Tuesday Chemical Cords comes out so I plan on making a trip to the West Side to buy it and some record sleeves.
