Title:
Given The ChanceAuthor:
isnaniRating: G
Genre: Romance/Family
Pairing: Draco/Hermione, Ron/Hermione & Scorpius/Rose
Summary: Amidst fleeting looks and a chance failed to be acquired… Draco and Hermione have been given a second chance. Albeit, somewhat impassable.
A/N: My first attempt at Draco/Hermione. Almost a drabble, I think. Secondly, it's not beta'd. So hopefully it'll be liked.
A merry mood followed the many people in the magnificent hall as various gifts were exchanged amongst each other. Christmas mornings had never been as joyous as this day at the Manor. The floor was scattered with torn, colourful wrapping papers as the children animatedly and proudly expressed their wonderment at their presents.
“Nana! Look at what I got from Grandfather!” exclaimed a blonde four year old girl.
Hermione Weasley smiled at her grandchild. Although inwardly she admitted a ridiculously priced music jewel box was unbefitting for a toddler, she would not expect less coming from a Malfoy.
“It’s beautiful, Lyria.”
Grey eyes sorted out for her at the words, giving her a fleeting look. Even after all those years, the man never failed to lug those feelings from her.
She and her family had been welcome at the Malfoy Manor ever since the heir had asked her daughter’s hand in marriage. Scorpius Malfoy and Rose Weasley were in love; a relationship that had overcome diverse obstacles but had somehow managed to pull through.
A moment came as her husband, Ron Weasley trudged along with her daughter, Rose and a house elf. Placing himself by her side on the loveseat, he pulled a loving arm around his wife. “Happy Christmas, love.”
“Happy Christmas, Ron,” she smiled back.
“You know, father,” Scorpius glanced at an aging Draco Malfoy. “I think you’re pampering my children way too much.”
A frizzy haired toddler stuck his tongue out at the comment, making the senior Malfoy laughed.
Hermione found herself gazing at her old classmate again. His guffaws captivated her. They were family now, albeit not directly. Draco Malfoy is her daughter’s father-in-law now. How it came to be was always beyond her. But as she stared at his matured grey eyes again, she knew that somewhere in the heavens, their children were given the chance Draco and her failed to acquire.
His wife, Astoria had passed a couple of years ago, but till this day, she knew… She knew that there could have been something between them given the chance. No words were needed to be said. Even Legilimency seems overrated.
As Draco’s piercing eyes met hers again for the hundredth time that morning, he silently answered her presentiment. Yes. Both their children, Scorpius and Rose had helped gave them both a second chance. They would live the love Hermione and Draco could not.
Her heart fluttered as a small smile graced his lips. But as quickly as it came, it was replaced by a glint of hurt.
Ron Weasley had tightened his arm around her as he kissed her temple tenderly. “We surely have come a long way, eh?”
