SDCC Sunday Doctor Who Panel

Jul 27, 2009 09:35

For those of the you that asked, the Sunday Doctor Who panel ran in this order:
Russell T. Davies, David Tennant, Euros Lyn, Juile Gardner, (unknown commentator with hand-written name sign)

It was worth the hours of wait from 7am to 10am. Though there were people in line from 8pm Saturday Night for this! 14 hours! Yipe! Let it not be said there are no Doctor Who fans in America. ;) Yip!

For the most part, the guests were energetic and entertaining, especially David. As the last of the panel to come to stage, he received the most applause. He also was wearing this awesome black t-shirt with a logo of a Star Wars storm-trooper helmet in silver sequence. Yip!

Commentator was dull but the panel was fun. They were told that people in the USA didn't know about Doctor Who. But from their experience those that did REALLY knew Doctor Who, which the hundreds of people in the room agreed with. David laughed at the rumors: there was to be a Doctor Who movie, he was going to play the Hobbit, etc. In the final filming, one of the jackets that David as the Doctor wore has disappeared from the set. Hmmm.

David will play the Doctor in the up coming Sarah Jane Adventures season. And Torchwood needs funding for next season. Torchwood is up in the air. And yes, fans were upset about Ianto. Russell had to verbally dance on that one. Yap.

General questions were OK, but either through direct censorship or individual, there were a few questions that were kind of a waste of time. We think the censors prevented the one question half the room wanted to know, and few people yelled out in frustration; the reasoning of why was he leaving. (Aside from The Doctor Who confidential reasoning.) Yap. A couple gems, the best was the final question from a 12 year-old girl. Based on the episode were the Doctor infiltrates a school. If David could be a teacher which type would he be. David stated he would be an English teacher and he would have Russell make the texts. Yip!

Two video clips: After the panel came on stage, they played the full trailer for the next episode, The Waters of Mars. At the end of things, their Nage-tempo trailer for the episode after got the cast off with out notice. Yip!

Spoilers: 2nd trailer
