You know I'm such a fool for you~ [locked to Lightning]

She hovered over the house on a large block of ice, staring down at it, curious if the person she wanted to see was home. While she had been stuck at the manor under Silvermane's care, Terra had been nice enough to visit her after the fight with Thirst, and Ophelia enjoyed seeing her other friends. But Lightning... she didn't tell him she was back ( Read more... )

There wasn't an answer for Ophelia at first. Lightning was busy feeding his dog, Panda. He expected the person at the door to be Duela. Since their last talk, the two have become good friends, and he rather enjoyed her company. After all, Lightning doesn't have a lot of friends. And the most important one had mysteriously vanished out of his life.

After placing the food down on the floor, he went to the door and opened it. The usual grin vanished when he saw who it was.

And, probably for the first time in his life, Lightning didn't say anything.

She stood outside, kind of looking at her surroundings, refamiliarizing herself with the area around his house...

Oh. Door opened. Oh oh.. Can't breath. She just.. kind of stares at him. She looks worried! Has he recognized me already? Is he staring at my scales? she thought to herself.

She gulped. "...Hi, Lightning." Hesitantly, she pulled down her hood, exposing her scale-covered hands as she did so, as well as her scaly cheeks and not-blue-anymore hair. She looked down, suddenly feeling very, very awkward.

Uh, wow.

You want to talk about awkward? Try having your almost-girlfriend appear at the doorway, after disappearing for a few months, revealing that she now has scales!

Lightning stared at her even more now, but his facial expression remained the same. When he finally spoke, an astounded (and slightly annoyed) expression went along with it. "I take it you were busy," he said, his tone strangely calm. Ophelia should be careful; that could change at any moment.

Ouch. Uh. She frowned a bit at that. "I... suppose you could say that," she frowned. "I... I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner.. or call or anything.. I just.." Ophelia hung her head a bit, unable to look at him, because she couldn't come up with an excuse, but she didn't want to tell him the truth, either. But silence wouldn't help her, and it would probably only make him angry. "I was scared to see you for awhile."

Either way, he was pretty pissed off. He had a feeling he was the last to find out about this, and that made him a sad panda aggravated him. Still, he didn't want to yell at Ophelia right then and there. For one, she just showed up out of nowhere for the first time in months and he didn't want to scare her off. Second, well, again: he doesn't have many friends.

He merely raised an eyebrow at her. "What made you not want to tell me sooner? I mean...I am yellow." :|

"I just.. I just didn't! No one really knew until a few weeks ago," she said. "I promise, you were the first person I was going to tell, but.. something happened when I came back to Jump City.. and..." Ophelia shook her head. She could tell him about that later.

"I just... I felt like a freak. I felt horrible and ugly and depressed." She hugged herself a bit with her left arm, the other one still at her side. "I went home to my parents and I just.. stayed there for awhile. And when.. I felt better, I guess.. I came back." Of course, it was hard to feel good about herself when he was annoyed with her. "You look more normal than me," she said softly. "I never thought you looked bad to begin with." For once, she's not so much trying to compliment him as she is just being honest.

Well, compliment or no compliment, that did take his annoyance down a notch. And she did seem upset, and uncomfortable, and he didn't want her to feel that way, even though he honestly didn't see what the big deal was. He was overjoyed when he appeared to be different, and he didn't take anything people said to heart. Then again, he never had scales sprout out of nowhere.

"Neither do you," he said, not sounding as annoyed anymore. He stepped aside, gesturing for her to come in. If she didn't pick up on it, he would invite her in shortly after. "So, how did this happen?"

She smiled a little bit at that, feeling better already. Okay, well he didn't think she was a freak, obviously, and he was inviting her in. These are good signs! She went inside, and sat down. Oh jeez, where to start...

"Well... Ironically, while I was on vacation. I was on a cruise ship... and it was attacked, by an Atlantean named Trident. But he was different from Aqualad, he was... well, he was like how I am now. Like.. a fishman, simply," she muttered, because this made her a fish girl. "He.. he turned people, mutated them to be like him. And he controlled them, like slaves. He tried to do it to me... but Aqualad saved me before I was completely transformed."

She stopped there for now, letting that sink in. She knew Lightning probably didn't want to hear about Aqualad after what happened with the Dragon Society, but she hoped he might be a little more forgiving since he had saved her.

Why, yes, the last thing he wanted to hear about was Aqualad, and the scowl on his face as he listened showed it. He was more interested in the transformation itself, anyway, not what Aqualad had been up to. Yes, Lightning was bitter. And yes, he's not very forgiving.

"That is...quite strange. How can one person be capable of such an ability?" he asked, almost out loud to just himself. Then he questioned, "And what happened to this Trident? Was he dealt with?"

"I don't know... he had a machine that caused the transformation.. with.. some kind of.. glowy rock thingy." She kind of laughed, just because it sounded so stupid. "I'm not sure how he was able to control everyone, but... yeah. Aqualad brought him to Atlantis. He's being kept there."

She pushed her hair out of her face a bit. "They.. said they might be able to reverse it someday. But they weren't able to at the time. So Aqualad took me home, and I stayed with my parents for a few months, just... getting used to it."

She smiled some at him. "In a way... it's been a good thing. You wouldn't believe how great my powers have gotten," Ophelia smirked. "Plus I can breathe underwater now!" She unzipped the hoodie, and pointed to the gills in her neck. Hey, now that she was sure he didn't think she was a freak, she was all too ready to brag about the positive effects.

Lightning couldn't help but grin when he saw the gills. Come on, Ophelia, that's pretty cool. It's not every day somebody grows gills.

"Why would you wish to reverse it when your powers have greatly improved?" he asked, genuinely curious. "How else have you improved? I am sure you practiced, now with your ability to breathe under water!"

Was that an enthusiastic Lightning? It was.

"Well.. when it first happened, I just didn't want to stay this way. I didn't even think about my powers. Even with as big of an advantage as it is.. I just..." She stopped talking. Ophelia just kind of blinked at him, and tilted her head. "Maybe you're right..." she smiles some, leaving it at that. She doesn't want to get depressed again over her appearance. Was it really worth it now? To change back just to 'look normal'?

She'd have to think about it.

"Oh, well of course! I can control rain and snow way better now.. It used to take some effort to convert moisture in the air to water or nice, but now it's a piece of cake.. I can even make some large ice fixtures in seconds."

She looks up at the ceiling. Hey, where did that ice chandelier come from?

Ophelia just looks at him and smiles. "So.. what about you? What have you been up to..?"

Lightning could say "of course" to that, but he decides not to. It was best to change the subject, for now.

Lightning glances up along with her. Ooh, that's a very nice ice chandelier, Ophelia. His grin shows that he definitely approves. "Excellent," he says, kind of bouncing on his heels, trying to get a closer look -- without poking his eyes out, that is.

He shrugs when she asks, though. "Nothing. My stupid brother decided to disappear back in Asia for months, too, so it has been only me here for awhile. I have been training with a friend of mine named Duela. And there have been NO criminals. It is rather dull lately."

Why is he so cute? Just the way he's bouncing on his heels makes her giggle.

"Oh.. well at least you guys have talked now, right? Geez, I thought that would all be over with now.."

She scoffs though. "My ass there's no criminals." Ophelia gestures to the cast arm. "You won't believe who I had fun running into."

"Oh, yes. We talked. Everything is fine now." He isn't going to explain the bit about his father yet. The last thing Lightning wants to talk about is his father, and his crazy brother's antics at trying to find him.

He stares at her, confused. "What are you talking about?" he asks.

"The night I came back to Jump city I was attacked by Thirst." Oh wait, Lightning probably didn't know her name. Ophelia herself didn't know until recently. "The crazy Terra-lookalike."

She just looks angry talking about it. Ophelia doesn't even feel scared of her anymore; she just has a lot of hate for the girl-monster. "I almost got away from her after 'killing' her again, but she broke my arm."

The scary thing is, Ophelia has a sick, somewhat satisfied smirk on her face at the mention of 'killing' the homunculus.
