Summary: Severus is content with his life as a respected folklore specialist until he finds himself attracted to one of his students, Remus Lupin, who seems to think the teacher has a lot to learn.
Notes: Based on the following prompt: Remus is a "late in life" student pursuing a degree in the area of the author's choosing. Severus is a harsh but well-respected professor. There's an immediate attraction between the two of them. Unfortunately, the school has a strict no student/teacher relationship policy. Severus knows of this policy and tries to keep anything with Remus at arms length by being harsher towards him than towards any other student. Remus eventually confronts Severus about this. Explosive kiss and/or sex. They try to keep their relationship secret but they get found out by another staff member/student. Severus gets investigated and could possibly get fired. The two have to make a choice about their relationships and their careers. Happy ending, please!
This is a very engaging story. The peek into campus politics is interesting - glad it's not me! - but what totally brings this story alive is the author's passion for folklore. This passion animates Severus, and I find it as fascinating as Remus does.
Many HP characters have IC cameos, Black gets what's coming (hurrah!) and Lupin, while he is adorable in his persistence, has real backbone.
A well written, very satisfying, interesting, and fun read.
