Talkin' about the weather.

It's different. It's been warm, relatively speaking. Lakes all over the state are breaking records (some as old as 100 years) for early ice-out. Since I started keeping track on January 23, there have only been seven days that the temperature has not crept above freezing. One day last week catapulted to 72°F (22°C)! In the shade, mind. Since 2/11, only two days have not been above 40°F (4°C).

I used to keep track of when I'd first hear frogs and peepers. (The peepers were usually a couple of days after the frogs.) I'd write it on the calendar and copy it onto the next year. I stopped after about eight years when I realized that the earliest was about April 6, and the latest about April 24, with average being about the middle. But today I heard frogs!

I make it a matter of principle to not mow the lawn before the fifth of May. This year, it looks as though it may need attention by the fifth of April! The crocus are blooming, and the daffodils are about to open up. The forsythia bloomed in January, so I'm not sure what, if anything, it's going to do now.

Tonight, it's supposed to snow.

*sighs*
