Swallowed In The Sea (Open Post)

An eerie calm seemed to have settled over Where. There had been no new arrivals for more than a week, no mysterious happenings, nothing. At first the quiet had been a nice change, but now it was really starting to bother Sawyer. With nothing to do and nowhere to go he'd been left alone with his thoughts and he quickly realized that his thoughts ( Read more... )

Cho has decided to venture out on her own, feeling rather bold all of a sudden, and makes her way through the jungle towards the beach. She's trying to make note of the various plants and flowers she recognizes, and sketches down the ones she doesn't, hoping they might have magical properties.

She makes her way to the edge of the forest and sees a figure a short ways off on the sand. It takes her a moment to recognize that it's Sawyer, and as soon as she does, she starts blushing.

A kiss.

It seems such a silly thing to get hung up on, but if she's honest with herself, she's thought about it slightly more than might be considered normal. She keeps along the edge and clears her throat, not sure if he's out here for some 'alone' time, or if he'd welcome company.

He's still watching the water, his mind wandering, when he hears someone behind him and slowly turns to see who it is. He smiles when he sees Cho standing there.

"Hey there Sunshine. Haven't seen you in a while." It hadn't really been that long, but he'd sort of wondered if she was avoiding him.

"Yeah... sorry... I just... I got really caught up with work and all." It's a lie and she knows it and she feels horrible and she knows it's probably not in the least convincing. The fact was she wasn't sure what that kiss meant if anything, and the last thing she wanted to do was act like some lovesick schoolgirl. He'd probably laugh if she did that, and she'd be mortified. So better that she gathered herself as well as she could before seeing him again.

"Right." He doesn't believe it for a second, but he's willing to go along with it. So she had been avoiding him. He didn't blame her, it was probably the smart thing to do. He should know better than to... well, he should just know better. "So, how's tricks?"

"Tricks?" she asks in confusion, coming over to sit down next to him. "Oh, you mean magic? Or those card tricks you were showing me? The potions are going... well.. slowly. Unfortunately it's a rather lengthy and complicated process, at least for the ones I'm trying to make. And where have you been? Keeping busy?"

"It's just a saying. Means 'how's it going'. But I guess it works on other levels too. Any progress on the luck potion?"

He leans forward, idly drawing a circle in the sand with his finger. "I've been real busy. I mean, look at all that ocean out there. It's not gonna' stare at itself."

"Some progress, but not nearly as much as I want," she sighs, leaning back on her hands. "But it's going in any case."

She smiles at him softly and leans into him slightly. "Well I'm here now, so I'll keep you company. I'm sorry I've not been around I just... you know..."

"Yeah, I know." He was well aware that he'd surprised her and confused her, after all, that was at least partly what he'd meant to do. And he'd been waiting to see what she'd do next. He smiles when she leans against him and he slips his arm around her shoulders. "You've been busy. But you must be pretty bored now if you're wanting to keep me company doing nothing."

She blushes slightly when he puts his arm around her, but finds herself scooting in closer despite that. "No it's not that. I can't be doing everything all the time or I'd wear myself out. Sometimes it's good to do nothing, and I can't think of anyone else I'd want to do nothing with, if that makes any sense."

He laughs softly. It does make sense, even if it probably shouldn't. "Well, I've heard of wanting nothing to do with someone, but I'm hoping wanting to do nothing means something else altogether."

"Of course it does," she replies reassuringly, snuggling into him slightly and sighing contentedly. "You just... I don't know... it's hard to find someone to do nothing with. People are always so busy doing things, trying to be things... it's nice to just... be around each other and not have to worry about all that, you know?"

He understood what she was trying to say, more or less, although it seemed strange to him. "Trying to be things?" he says, wondering just what she'd meant by that.

"I don't know... too busy trying to be busy, or trying to be something they're not or just... yeah. I'm not very good at explaining it. But I think people need to... you know, stop sometimes and smell the roses. Or just stop and do nothing. It can be a very good thing." She reaches down into the sand and starts sifting through, looking at different shell pieces, and begins to make a small pile of the ones she likes. Part of her wonders how it can be she's so comfortable around him, and the other part really doesn't want to think about it because she'll just overthink things again and make a mess of it.

"Maybe so," he agrees reluctantly. He's been doing an awful lot of nothing lately and he isn't sure it's such a good thing. "But at least when you're doing things, you're too busy to notice the stuff that doesn't make sense. When you're doing nothing, those thoughts start piling up on you."

"It's all about balance anyway. Can't have too much of any one thing. And I know what you mean, about thoughts piling up on you. They tend to do that for me no matter what I'm doing." She picks up a shell and plays with it in her hands, trying to ignore a little flutter of butterflies.

"That doesn't exactly surprise me," he says, calmly watching her play with the shell. "So tell me Sunshine, out of that pile of deep thoughts... what are you thinking right now?"
