Sunset

I had the usual, crappy kind of day at work (one bright spot - a colleague gave me a gorgeous dolphin calendar. I'd been bemoaning the fact that I had none this year, but how seredipatious that the one she doesn't want is a dolphin one ;=)).  Otherwise it was the usual round of moans and groans (even a racist for good measure), so I was happy to come right home.  I'd meant to check out the sales for a new camera, but was just too tired to care (which gives you some indication, because you guys know how I am craving a new camera!). 8am starts do make for a long day.  Oh, there was another bright spot, Conor, our lovely, Irish techie guy was going to the super at lunchtime and I asked him to get me some chorizo and fresh bread, which he duly did, and his choices were so fine.  It was all delicious.

So I got home, put some beans and corn on the hob to warm up and sat outside with a glass of wine.  This is something I hardly ever do, believe it or not........I know, given the view etc you'd be doing it every day, but to be honest I usually down my evening meal whilst typing here on nights when I am home.

I don't know why I chose to do it tonight, but what a reward!  The sunset was magnificent, and I sat down just at the right time to fully enjoy it!  The sea has calmed down a lot over the last few days and it heaved gently in front of me, the color of a husky's eyes, the horizon sky was palest turquoise, and streaked with pinkest jet streams.  I face more or less South, so this is the trailing off of the sunset.  The truly awe inspiring sight is hidden by a low mountain (not to mention a forest of cranes and some very ugly buildings, but tonight I managed to cut them from my consciousness successfully).  But as the sun sank the sky above the mountain turned from pink to red to purple and the horizon sky to gold.  What wonderful colors, better than any firework display!  For once the street was quiet, and I sat and sipped, and sat and sipped until dusk fell.

Edited: to change user pic to a sunset, and not a sunrise, as it was!  Not from my balcony, but nearby.
