For the next few days, Anthony, Stasia, Kaitlin, Shirui, Alannah, and Stacey all shared the two bedrooms of the Chinese scientist dome to sleep in. Despite Shirui’s insistence, Anthony chose to sleep on the floor, rather than in the one bed in the guys’ room. After their fight with Dale and his clan of lovers, the six of them knew that they had no chance of safely returning to camp.
The six of them continued eating nothing but coconuts for the next several weeks, while they became used to the fact that their new home would almost inevitably be the dome.
Although the castaways missed Gabby, several events of the coming weeks took up most of their attention:
Shirui and Stacey walked through the woods a few days after the rebellion, looking for some new type of food or any sign of a better life. They often took these strolls through the woods, exploring the unknown parts of the island, considering there wasn’t much to do on the island except sit inside the dome and talk to other people. Frankly, both Shirui and Stacey were tired of hearing Anthony’s story about how awesome his speech was and how he had won his class treasurership the year before he came to the island. By now, each castaway had heard a reenactment of this same speech at least fifty times, but after about ten they stopped clapping when he was finished.
So Stacey and Shirui walked through the woods quite often, although their romance had long since fizzled out on the island. Stacey was still attracted to Shirui (after all, he was a genius) but kept her feelings silent, hoping to prevent the awkward silence that followed every time they made out. So Stacey and Shirui walked through the woods quite often, each time taking a new path and hoping to find something exciting on the island. The most exciting thing either of them had ever found was a large chinchilla sitting perched upon the branch of a tree without moving. They both stood watching the chinchilla for about five minutes, but then came to the consensus that it wasn’t going to move after Shirui threw several rocks at it.
So Stacey and Shirui walked through the woods quite often, making sure to avoid the path that led back toward the camp they had lived at (or Shirui had) for two years. They knew that if they returned to camp, where Dale, Sabel, Sarah, and Joanna would almost certainly be free by now, that Dale would probably hunt them in his speedo. It wasn’t that Shirui didn’t want to see Dale in his speedo, he just didn’t particularly want to be hunted.
So Stacey and Shirui walked through the woods quite often, whenever things around the dome got boring. They would open the air lock into the dome and swim across the icy cold lake until they reached the warm shore on the other side, where they would begin their walks through the woods. On this particular day, they decided to start from the opposite side of the lake and continue through a darker area of woods, which they very rarely traveled. Shirui and Stacey held hands while walking through dark patches of woods, because Shirui was easily scared and Stacey was more than happy to hold hands with him. So they traveled through these woods, being careful not to trip on a tree branch or hit by a hanging leaf. On this particular day, they happened to know that Anthony had just begun his story about his class election, so they knew they had a lot of time to kill before they could return to the dome. They continued past a few clearings and up to what Shirui thought was the farthest point they had ever traveled in this direction. For awhile now, the elevation of the ground had been slowly rising, and after they passed another deep section of woods, they realized that they were nearly walking at a 45 degree angle to the ground. Still, they persisted in walking, talking about all the things that had happened in their lives. Shirui told Stacey about his intense education at the University of Scientists at eleven years old, and Stacey told Shirui about her many experiences as a loyal pirate of Dale’s fleet.
So Stacey and Shirui continued to walk through the woods, farther and farther into the jungle. Since they had begun walking at the beginning of the day, it was just past noon when they approached the very top of the high mountain, the highest mountain on the entire island, which none of the castaways had ever climbed before (except Jessica, who climbed up to throw Daniel off a cliff and inherit his money). At the top of the mountain, in a very large clearing of the jungle, they found what they thought was just a bunch of rocks, but what Shirui recognized as almost an exact replica of the British Stonehenge. (if this were a real TV show, I would play creepy music here like they do in “Lost”) They looked around the clearing, as if expecting to see someone jump out of the trees. After a few minutes, Shirui led to the middle of the formation, where he stood next to the largest rock of all, sitting directly in the middle, as a sort of monument. Due to his intense studies of Latin, he was able to read the inscription on the stone:
“Beware, all who journey to this place
Beware of the secrets it holds
Only he who handles the currency may save your fate now
Look to the treasurer for all your problems to be solved”
(I would play the creepy music here, too)
Just after Shirui had finished translating, a downpour of rain rang down from the heavens like Donald Duck running away from Goofy (Goofy is quite a bit taller than Donald).
At camp, Anthony began to sing
“Rain.
Rain.
Go away.
Come again
Some other day”
And the sun shone through the clouds like Mickey Mouse riding Pluto in to save the day.
