Taxi 1437
I'm in the "city that never sleeps"
And yet I'm still wishing I were by your side,
Or vice versa.
While I'm seeing various tourist "hot spots"
Wishing you were next to me.
Maneuvering close to me on this chilly New York night.
As I'm zigzagging my way in between the thousands of people on the sidewalk.
Squished on the concrete like sardines in a tin can.
I'm looking around,
And the city lights are blinding.
So it's making me miss the stars
Almost as much as I'm missing your mesmirizing eyes.
Because I wish upon those stars,
Like the fools who wish upon those coins that they throw in the fountains.
Wishes for better lives placed in pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.
As I'm hoping for our love to expand,
Because I don't want my love to go to waste.
But the stars here are only vaguely present.
And are nothing compared to the stars that shine brilliantly in our little town.
So I'll take a cab back to the hotel,
With you on my mind the entire time.
Lay on this bed of comfy pillows with a feather soft mattress
As I listen to the police sirens lull me to sleep,
I'm dreaming of a love so far away,
But the states that separate us could never stop the fact that you're reason my heart beats.
It's named after a taxi, because I thought about the idea for a poem while riding in a cab.
