These are not New Year's Resolutions. They are semester goals. Inspired by Christina's New Year's Resolutions, I am making my own. I just can't call them that because I made a resolution not to make any more New Year's resolutions and because I hope that setting them for a shorter period of time will make them easier to reach. (I almost never keep resolutions.)
In no particular order:
1) Waste less time.
This means putting a limit to the number of times I can check email/live journal in one day, the amout of televsion I can watch in one day, and setting aside specific time to read books for fun so that it doesn't end up eating into my study time. It also means dealing with anxiety by tackling it head-on rather than pretending that reading a book or surfing the web will make it go away.
2) Cook more.
I could sure use the practice and it'll be nice to bring things to school with me other than peanut-butter & jelly sandwhiches and it'll be much better than spending money I shouldn't be spending on food at school.
3) Eat healthier.
This goes hand-in-hand with goal # 2. I always end up feeling better and having more energy when I'm eating lots of good fruits & veggies.
4)Pray more.
I really don't do hardly enough of this. I just got a nifty prayer journal for Christmas, though, so woohoo! perhaps it'll help.
5) Take Aikido lessons.
But what, you might ask, is Aikido? Well, according to the nice people who teach it for free several nights a week, Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese style of martial arts. It's all about using one's opponents own energy to defend against their attacks and minimize injury to both oneself and one's opponent. They say it's ideal for small people. I've also heard that it's extremely difficult to master. Good. I love a challenge. (I do know that mastering will take several years though.) Anyone want to join me?
6) Go to the gym in the morning a few days a week.
Since I have no early morning classes and there is a very nice gym that my tuition money pays for anyway, taking advantage of it seems like a good idea. And I used to love going to the cardio kickboxing classes.
7) Eat less meat.
So it turns out that going vegan overnight didn't work so well. I do want to cut down on animal products. This sort of falls in the eat healthier category.
8) Get a job.
My schedule is even set up so that this will be feasable. :)
9) Schedule things.
This means actually planning and writing things down. I believe it has the potential to minimize stress and maximize time.
10) Go to Ripple Effect on Saturday mornings.
I actually didn't go at all last semester and am rather embarassed about that since I used to be the one who really pushed it. At Ripple Effect volunteer help give out food to the homeless guests who come. It happens early on saturday mornings.
11) Take shorter showers.
Not wasting water = very cool.
