The Lord's day.

By nature, I am not an overtly religious person.
Sure, I love Jesus. But I may love irony even more.
So when - on my weekly trip to H&M - I came across a chain with tiny depictions of Jesus and Mary dangling from it, I knew my $3.90 would not find a better reason for being.
Each of the two pendants has a different image on each side. There is weeping Jesus wearing a crown of thorns on one, risen, radiant Jesus on the other. Mary simply looks serene on both of her sides.
It was the last one on the accessory rack. I snatched it.
After milling through the racks and cursing the Swedish for their slim fits, I plunked my purchases onto the counter.
The clerk, a Jersey girl through and through, picked up the necklace and burst into laughter. I looked at her and shrugged my shoulders.

"Why not?" I offered.

She bagged my other items and thought for a moment.

"You know, we're not supposed to sell things with Jesus on them."

Now it was my turn to burst into laughter.

"Really?" I asked, raising a trademark eyebrow.
"Yeah," she said, turning to her fellow clerk. "We're not supposed to sell things with Jesus on it, right?"
"That's our policy," the other clerk confirmed.

I continued to laugh as Clerk No. 1 handed me my bag.

"Thanks," she chortled. "Have a great day."
"You too," I replied.

Then, because I couldn't help myself:

"God bless you."
