avengerkink “Hulk has vision problems, someone finally figures it out.”
Bruce has always explained that the only memories he has of being the Hulk is screaming, smashing, and sometimes flashes of images. His mind automatically throws it into the file that reaffirms his statement that Hulk is ‘the other guy’ not him. Never once had it occurred to him that it was because Hulk couldn’t see…
-
“Doctor Banner?” Brown eyes blinked up to see blue and white, Captain America then, it was confirmed when Steve stepped into that fleeting middle ground where Bruce’s vision cleared and handed him a set of clothes. “You may want to get dressed quickly; the media is on their way.”
“Thanks for the warning.” Bruce mumbled as he fumbled with getting the pants on. “How bad was it this time?”
“Well, we figured out something. Tony’s got a few bruises because of it but he’s alright.”
“Tony? Did, oh God what did he do?” Bruce stepped wrong when he tried to climb out of the Hulk induced crater around him and ended up being caught before he could slam down onto the sharp edges of pavement.
“Tony’s fine, he just, did something stupid. Hulk didn’t realize it was Tony until after he’d knocked him down. The good news is, I don’t think we’ll have to worry about Hulk hurting anyone on accident anymore. Bad news is that anything remotely military in appearance isn’t going to be allowed to be worn around him.”
-
“Tony what the hell were you thinking?!” Bruce honest to God yelled when he saw Tony heading for the lab. “Why are you in military fatigues?” Tony rolled his eyes at the yelling, way past being use to getting yelled at and threw the sling supporting his sprained shoulder away in annoyance, “Tony, you need to rest that shoulder, put that back on.”
“Careful Brucey or that blood pressure of yours will go through the roof.” Bruce’s glare had just a hint of green and Tony raised his hands, “Easy big guy. I may not be a doctor but I think I figured out the reason Hulk’s so ‘smash’ first and ask questions never.”
“Oh?” Bruce’s eyes still had that hint but it was fading as curiosity got the better of him. “And I swear to God, Stark, if you mention anything about steroids again I’ll smack you.”
“The other guy can’t see. Wouldn’t you be just a little inclined to knock away anyone you couldn’t see or recognize if you woke up in the middle of who knows where and hearing gun shots or explosions?”
Bruce blinked, all green gone, “Huh? The other guy isn’t blind. I have memories of seeing… He recognized Betty, that’s what always calmed him down when it first happened.”
“He’s still worse off than you are in the eyesight department, hence the clothes. Capcicle said he realized the moment he hit me who I was and freaked out about it. That’s why you came back so quick, seems he’s smart enough to realize you know how to take care of injuries.”
“So Hulk’s, visual impairment is why he’s so hostile? That’s what you’re boiling this down to?”
“I’m not saying that he’s going to turn into a giant green cuddle bunny the moment we get his vision blur free but yeah, most of it. If you couldn’t see well enough to tell who is friend and who is foe in the middle of things, you’d be hitting anything that got close too.”
Bruce nodded, it had happened before, “Alright, then what do you suggest?”
Tony thought about it, shrugging, “Contacts?”
Bruce started laughing, he couldn’t help it, “You get to teach him how to put them on.”
“Glasses it is then,” Tony smiled and went about making a pair of Hulk proof lenses.
