So thanks to
the_angry_pixie 's review of the first episode of Skins series 5, I decided to give this new generation a chance and I'm so glad I did.
I ADORE THEM!
I just finished watching the first two episodes with Frankie and Rich and I enjoyed them so much. Frankie is just so endearing and lovable. The more people try to shit on her the more I root for her. I'm glad that she found some awesome mates who are down for the person that she truly is.
I also like that everyone is not already friends so it leaves room for further character development, not simply discovering each character as they show progresses. From the two episodes that I've seen, I think I'm gonna enjoying getting to know ALL the characters. So far, I'll admit that Grace is sort of may favorite, although I'm anxiously wanting for the episode that features Minny's other minion; the one with the funky hair cut and the nose ring. Grace seems like the girl who embraces everyone or can find the silver lining in everything, but is afraid to let anyone down. I've lovin' the John Hughes style match up of her and Rich. I think this was how I was supposed to feel when Jal and Chris got together in the first season, but didn't. I'm already rooting for these two though. I can't wait.
I even like Minny which sort shocks me, but doesn't. She's been quite bitchy, but it's so easy to see that it stems from something she dislikes about herself. Frankie's gonna be the one to get through to her for sure.
Honorable mention also much go to the parents. Two episode in and each character has a parent who actually gives a fuck. BRAVO! I mean, there was no yelling at them to not be a fuck up, none of that which I'm grown quite used to on Skins. Rich's dad actually tells him that he loves him EVERY MORNING before he goes off to college even though Rich repeatedly refers to him as "Kevin".
Watching this just made me even more embarrassed for Skins USA. As someone who couldn't even watch Gen 2 because I missed Gen 1 so much, I'm happy to connect with this show again and explore the different characters.
