music is pwning me

so, for joey's song, I want to record realtime drums for it, even if he already has MIDI'd drums.

so, instead of writing Para-medics-esque drum tabs of "5/4 groove x 4; ride 8ths x 4 - hi-hat quarter x 8", I'm writing the sheet music.

it's predominantly in 5/4, and stays that way for 16 measures. Then it goes to 6/4, where I can tomflail.

HOWEVAR: in the middle is a transitional time. It's either one measure or two. MY FAILURE IN MUSIC IS EVIDENT. It can be one measure of 8/8, but it doesn't have an /8 feel. [illusion by ride playing 8ths] orrrr, two measures of 3/8 and then 5/8. Orrr, two measures of 4/4. What. I. I THINK it's 8/8, because that's how it's played. I think the drums would exaggerate the odd time measure difference more if it were two measures. Like, even in subtle hints. I think for the REALLY odd breakdown [Para-medics: two bars of 5/8; three bars of 3/4 OR one bar of 9/8; one bar of 7/8; one bar of 4/4; two bars of 3/4 -waltz; cont. 2/2] I ended up marking a new time signature with a simple crash on the downbeat. Something subtle to mark the change. That's what I mean about the 'subtle hints'.

god, and it's holding me back, too. I fail at music so hard.

PLUS: I had ANOTHER "ONE AND FOUR AND" moment.

I swear, reconsidering music over art. :/
