i've been reading incidents in the life of a slave girl by harriet jacobs and I HAVE REALIZED SO MUCH FROM THAT TINY BOOK. if u havent read any slave literature or have some time, PLEASE read it. it will put ur lives in perspective, and right now, it has changed mine for the better. it will make u cry for sure.
alright, so my conclusions from this heart wrenching book: no more unnecessary judgements, no more harshness. i am going to try to keep the compassion in my heart alighted for as long as i can, because even when i face periods where it seems like i cud never turn back, i always do. and though there is so much pain and suffering in the world, i think we all need to stick it out together; that's the only way we'll get through these things we call hardships and i think focusing on the good times is what can save us in the end. i am so lucky to have what i have in my life, where no slave master or anyone can take it away at his own will. i cant believe what some people have to go through while living (im also thinking of the book about the cambodians called "first they killed my father"). so many sad tales and yet so much to live for. so, although there's the bad people in this world and the past, i know we are all connected through the strength of our compassion for each other; those we love and even those we hate. because in the end, we're all going to die, and how would u like to be remembered after all in this life of yours?
