I have been enjoying reading your first lines even if I am not in the appropriate fandom(s) to read your actual stories, so here are the first lines of my ten most recent:
1. It wasn't that Thyra was afraid to die. (at the end, The Last Kingdom (TV))
2. I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky / To the yet undestroyed depths of Y’ha-nthlei. (Shoggoth Fever, Cthulhu Mythos - H. P. Lovecraft)
3. Thyon stammered out his request in Amezrou’s language. (A Foreign Tongue, Strange the Dreamer Series - Laini Taylor)
4. I’m a velociraptor. (Commercial Enterprise, Allstate Insurance "Mayhem" Commercials/Stargate Atlantis)
5. To: Shebra Znepi, Assessment Coordinator, Universal Coalition of Civilized Worlds (Intelligence Test, 11Foot8 Bridge (YouTube & Website))
6. When Arya arrived at the Small Hall, it looked different than it usually did for her lessons. (The First Water Dancer, A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin)

Well, you can tell that the first five are drabbles (#3 is a double-drabble) because blammo, right to the point. For the other five stories, it's all scene-setting.
Maybe one day I will write fic again! (No real reason I haven't, I just...haven't. I have a lot of words written on unfinished stories I ought to finish, though.)
