A discussion a couple of weeks ago on the
Exchanges After Dark discord server (and yes, I know, I owe a discord primer, but...Yuletide) led to the creation of
classiclitclub for reading and discussion of classical literature. First up is the Iliad, starting January 1st!
Here is the introductory post on the Iliad, with information on various versions and translations. As it happens, the new Caroline Alexander translation mentioned in that post is currently $1.99 for the
Kindle version from Amazon (ETA:
also elsewhere, in other formats) so I immediately grabbed that; my plan is to also download the free Alexander Pope translation and to work between the two of them, because I am a huge geek about translations and poetry and translations of poetry (see
my Goodreads review of Douglas Hofstadter's Le Ton Beau De Marot: In Praise of the Music of Language, one of my favorite books ever).
Anyway! If you have interest in classical lit, or in the Iliad in particular, please, come on over either to the community or the discord channel or both!
