fannishly

We are 3/4 through The Hollow Crown, and wow, the cast list is like, every BBC costume drama actor ever, isn't it. Which is probably why we're both really enjoying it, even B who is much less conversant with Shakespeare than I am - the acting's so superb that most of the time it's pretty clear what's going on even when you have no clue what anyone's actually saying. But of course it also breaks the magic when you recognize someone - oh, that's Captain Picard, and that's Lady Mary, and there's Cicero!

I am hella impressed with Tom Hiddleston, who I only sort of vaguely knew through the Thor/Avengers/etc people on my flist (yes, I saw, um, some of the movies?). He's really an excellent actor. And his impression of Jeremy-Irons-as-King-Henry-IV was perfection. (And DAMN he looks good in tight pants.) But I think my biggest crush is on Joe Armstrong as Hotspur, who looks a bit like Jamie Bell, and who is the real-life son of Alun Armstrong (John Southouse from Garrow's Law!) as well as portraying his son here.

I've been reading a little fanfiction again lately, too; most recently, On Earth as it is in Heaven, a long (38.6K), meaty Vikings soulbond threesome fic by
samyazaz that I found via this awesome and long list of novella- and novel-length fic recs (and I'm not just calling it awesome because two of my stories are on it la la la) which in turn I found via sineala. The niftiest thing about this story, for me, is the soulbonding rationale, based on the Christian and Viking creation myths. I'm not particularly into soulbonding as a trope but I like when it's treated creatively, as here. (Um, also hot.)

I have not been writing fanfiction lately, alas. But I am contemplating signing up for Remix and also for Sutcliff Swap. Contemplating, only, at this point, because maybe it's not a good idea? But maybe it's the only way to get me writing. And maybe it will jump-start my creative juices and get me working on my languishing WIPs. (One can but hope!)

I have also discovered (round-about-ly through
cereta) an entertaining serial webcomic, updated weekly on Fridays, Granted, and if you don't do Tumblr, as I do not (then why am I posting all these Tumblr links?!) you can subscribe to the feed I created,
grantedcomic_feed. The artist also made an adorable one-shot (man, I hate that term, but it fits in this case) princess gets rescued from dragon femslashy comic, which is how I was originally linked to her.

Wow, that's: We, I, I've, I, and I. Um. So, enough about me! How have YOU been?
