the post of grrr

Nov 25, 2008 14:58

I have some good things to post, but that's not going to happen quite yet.

1. Community hackage: both contrelamontre and orlandoslash have been hacked, in the manner of the Shoebox Project hackage. LJ Abuse has been contacted, as have the real mods of contrelamontre. (If you know the mod of orlandoslash, please let them know, although I doubt anyone reading this is in that comm other than angiepen; ETA ( Read more... )

fandom, lj, rant, interesting pointers

Yeah, I am not sure that anything can be done about #1 (in a more general sense) other than having LJ change its philosophy of "the original email address may always access the account."

It would be a good idea to be able to remove your first email address if you've lost control of it, but I'm not sure how they'd do that without opening other possibilities of abuse instead.

And, lo: http://penknife.livejournal.com/379239.html?style=mine

Although you can only remove addresses that have been activated since the one you are using now, if that makes sense. I might actually change back to the address I started this account with - which I don't use any more because it's too clearly associated with my real name and email - and then delete a bunch of the old ones.

Re: #3: It is, but erratically. I got some more or less as normal this morning, then they stopped; then three suddenly arrived together, but out of order of posting, at midday, about three hours after the last 'ordinary' one. Then I got another 7 about 4 hours after that, again, all together, out of order, and at least one was someone else's comment, which I'd replied to much earlier in the day and already had the comment notification e-mail for my reply in the midday batch! And I've commented about four or five times on things since that, and nothing has turned up now for nearly another four hours.

In other words, LJ has hiccups.

I had been getting my notifications just fine (although friends had been complaining) until...about an hour ago.

Another 11 have just come in, some of them at least three hours old, if not more... and all out of sequence again, too.

Grrr.

How annoying! The out-of-sequence stuff always confuses me.

In case you haven't seen by now, the hijacker's been suspended now and their posts are gone. Also, one of the contrelamontre mods, zarah5, has been suspended as well - possibly her journal was hacked and that is how the hijacker got in.

Yep, I saw. Yay me for reporting it to Abuse!

Urgh, there are always stupid people around. So glad there are nice/smart people to make up for it!

3. LJ is still not delivering comment notifications. Boo.

I'm getting them, just sporadically and always delayed. And not all of them. :-( And the comment notification page isn't updating properly either, so that's not much help.

The real problem is that the comment notification page doesn't tell you when someone has replied to one of your comments in someone else's journal!

I know, it's a pain! I've been tracking comments on my own posts in communities, so I get them in my messages inbox, but I can't track every comment thread on every comment I leave!

ETA: Good going lj - it only took an hour for me to get notification of your answer!

In regards to 2, sigh. She's new to fandom, I hope.

Hope you get over the grr soon. :D

Dunno. But apparently she has an attitude about writers who object to her archival. Sigh.

(and I am just getting more and more GRRRR over the stupid network going DOWN!)

(and I had a SUCKY RUN today, too, involving an unscheduled stop behind some bushes...)

She's kind of special, yeah. I read the message she put up on her site and wow. Entitled much?

And as for bush stops...that's one of the few things I like better about urban versus trail running, parks with toilets!
