The election is over. The stock market's crashing. The economy's in the tank.
I'm going to DISNEY NEW ZEALAND!
Tickets have been acquired. B and I shall depart on December 7th and arrive at Auckland on December 9th. (At the ridiculous hour of 5 am, which doesn't really matter, because by then our brains will be thoroughly scrambled by 20 hours on planes and in airports.)
We're going to start out by staying with friends who live in Devonport, maybe go sailing with them for a week. Also visiting friends in Warkworth. Various hiking stuff, canoeing the Whanganui Journey if we can get a trip. Wellington by mid-January? Then to the South Island where we have a ridiculous amount of hiking and camping stuff planned. I think we are basically going to walk the length of the island, la la la. A couple of the hikes we are getting advance permits for, because we have to, but we are trying not to get too tied to a strict schedule otherwise. Probably we shall try to get around by bus. Fly back at the end of February.
We are kind of scrambling right now because although we had vague ideas ("Oh, this looks cool! Oh, we should go here!") we didn't have anything set in concrete, and now suddenly we are leaving in THREE WEEKS OMG. (Tickets turned out to be cheapest if we left in this particular window, I imagine because of Christmas holidays later on.) So any advice from old hands or, you know, residents :-) is welcome.
Also, what this means is if you had thought you might want me to beta your Yuletide story, you need to get it to me by Sunday November 30.
OMGNEWZEALANDYAY!
