handful of recs

I'm nearly through my list of Slings and Arrows recs for crack_van, although I'm expecting there will be some good S&A stories posted on Yuletide. (And I know there will be at least one, because I beta-read it.) EEEEE Yuletide! My anticipatory joy cannot be contained in this post! So if you, like me, are tapping your foot impatiently waiting for the archive to open damn it, here are a few stories and vids to enjoy in the meantime, in a variety of fandoms:

Heroes

Jack, or, Adventures in Reading Against the Text by LC (lcsbanana) | Niki, Claire, Monica gen, PG, vid. This is an awesome vid of the Heroes women moving from cowed and dependent to strong, empowered, and kick-ass. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a constructed reality vid, because the show's not quite like that. Oh, well. I'd watch this show. And I'd watch this vid. A lot.

due South

Pour Some Sugar On Me by swolfpup | Fraser/every woman on the show, PG, vid. Hee, maybe you could consider this a bit of a constructed reality vid as well: Fraser as suave and sexy Lothario! Cutting a swath through the entire female population of Chicago! It's fabulous and OMG hot, and it ends with a slashy implication, so, yay!

untitled ficlet by dessert_first | Fraser/RayK, PG, ficlet. Men awkwardly talking about their feelings! And kissing!

I'll be sleeping on the couch for awhile by bluebrocade | Fraser/RayK, R, ficlet. The structure delights me and the punch line makes me giggle. And OTPers might not want to read it.

SGA

Male Enhancement (The Soul and the Company Store Remix) by Leah | McKay/Sheppard, R, novella. This is a remix of a story I haven't read. It's the kind of AU I like best (which is alas rare in SGA) - set in a world that is close to, but not quite, canon, in which familar canonical events (or their analogues) occur. Rodney's still an SGC scientist, but John is a robot - except that he is not, as he claims to be, an AI sex toy, but a highly advanced and highly secret experimental model. The plot includes both standard Harlequin tropes and startlingly clever twists and revelations. There's a bit of handwavium tossed around, but no more than in the show. A good read.

Okay, now it's time to get back to work on my third (*cough*) Yuletide story, and poke some more at that meta about writing I promised y'all weeks ago, and maybe finally get out and do my Christmas shopping. Not as bad as it sounds - we don't do gifts other than this one big random draw exchange with my husband's family, and since you never know who's going to receive what you buy, most of us just buy a good bottle of liquor or gourmet food type stuff. I should start assembling my year-end post with wordcounts and pie charts and circles and arrows. And maybe I'll, you know, do some actual work. Haha, just kidding!
