timeshifting fandoms for the purpose of crossovers

So I started writing this crossover (Boa vs. Python/due South la la la yes I am insane), then suddenly realized that the timelines of the two fandoms are incompatible, because BvP was filmed and presumably set in 2004 (there are reference to terrorists and Al-Qaida and so on) and dS (seasons 3 and 4) was filmed and presumably set in 1997-1999. So, what do I do? What would you do?

I always try to make timelines coincide properly when I write crossovers, but I've had this problem before. For if you can see where you're going (Frannie/Buddy, PG), my due South/Wilby Wonderful crossover, I had to slip the timeline of Wilby a little earlier than its filming so that my story could take place both the summer after Call of the Wild, and a year after the events of Wilby Wonderful, but there was nothing in the movie that alluded to any specific dates, so I figured it was okay. Here, well, I don't know. And what do you do if you're trying to cross something over with Star Wars, for example, which took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?

Actually, let me turn this around:
