wild-ass guesses
I've got to stop looking at my Big-Ass Grid or I'm going to go nuts. I've managed to guess a story for all of the sga_santa writers whose work I'm familiar with, and some who I'm not but whose "what I'll write" matched a limited set of stories. I also tried very hard to assign writers to a few stories which were different enough I thought the pool of possiblities of writers was limited.
My guesses are based on a combination of the following: general story quality (and how much it pings me personally), general story style, dialogue tag usage, amount of dialogue, length of story, choice of tense and POV, typographical quirks (such as using *this* instead of this and choice of scene separators), usage of American vs. British spelling, comments or knowledge about who has beta-read the story, what each writer has offered to write and requested not to write, other elements I associate with individual writers, and the assumption that the author hasn't commented on her own story. Possibly others.
I have had two guesses confirmed offline; I'm including those, but not indicating which they are. I have had two guesses disproved offline, and I'm not listing them :-) I am not including the two stories I beta-read, or the one I wrote, or the author who accidentally responded non-anonymously to comments. I'm fairly confident of about a third of these, making reasonable assumptions for about a third, and stabbing in the dark for a third.
