randomish recs

I've been having a love-hate relationship with fic lately; some perfectly good stories aren't doing it for me, and I find myself avoiding some stories that I'd normally read, and reading other stories that I normally wouldn't. Here are some stories I've read and enjoyed, lately: SGA, HP (gasp!) and a crossover (yay!). (I'm also reading a lot of due South, but at this point I'm not reccing for that fandom. There are so many reccers, and I'm reading their recs rather than wading generally through archives because - well, because I can!)

I'll start with the crossover, because I'm in a big xover mood (having just sent mine off to the betas, la la la):

Walk Out of the World by Martha Wilson (ltlj): SGAxFirefly, ~3000 words, PG, gen. Kaylee and River find themselves on a strange world. Can I just say this is very, very cool? My knowledge of Firefly is limited to Serenity, but that's enough to appreciate the River POV which is perfectly skewed and twisty. Seeing the SGA characters through her eyes - wow. (Also on lj, so you can leave a comment here if you like.)

Continuing with the SGA:

Take a Chance on Me by chopchica: McKay/Sheppard, NC17, 22,000 words. Aliens make them confront their inmost feelings in extremely weird ways. Although this story feels a little like two stories smushed together (the disco ball stuff, and the dream stuff), both stories are fun, and the sex is yummy. I love the touch of Lorne/Parrish at the end, partly because mmm Lorne/Parrish, but also because of the function it serves in story structure. (Also on lj in three parts, so you can comment here if you like.)

Shock by Frostfire (frostfire_17) McKay/Sheppard, PG13, short story. Sheppard felt betrayed by McKay in Trinity, and now McKay feels betrayed by Sheppard when he orders him to eat unidentified food to make their alien hosts happy. Trust issues, treated with gravity and seriousness.

"Beyond M-theory: Alternative realities and boundary conditions" by Dr. Rodney McKay by zoetrope: McKay/Sheppard, NC17, short story. They're back on earth. Probably. I have some issues with this story (the beginning either contradicts canon, or sets things up to be a different "time on earth" than directly post-Siege), but I like the dreamy, disconnected feel that harks back to the "Home" episode.

80 proof and Pier 8 by lyra_sena: McKay/Sheppard, NC17, short stories, AU-ish (although they could have met in college, on the beach, I guess!) Young gay lifeguard in the summer before senior year at the Air Force Academy meets future scientist with his homebrew sunscreen. PWP, really, with awkward and imperfect, yet very hot sex.

The One Where They Were Turned Into Cockneys by Danvers (sdraevn). Total and complete crackfic in which John and Rodney...yeah. Gen-ish ficlet, meta-ish, hysterically funny.

And on the HP front:

Girl Stuff and the Boys by gatewaygirl: Harry/Draco, Harry/Draco/boy!Hermione, NC17, short story. Written for the perposterice bad-summary-crackfest, this is actually a very interesting (and funny) look at what happens when Hermione decides she'd rather be a boy. The cross-dressing kinky stuff at the end isn't my thing, but girly!Draco fans will probably find it hot.

25 stories Penknife never wrote about the Marauders. Sirius/Remus, Remus/Tonks, James/Lily, PG, collection of related ficlets, I guess. 25 teeny-ficlets for fanfic100 prompts, ranging from the sweet to the absurd and back again, with a hefty dash of meta.
