This madness will end up with the people in the big countries eating well and sending the kids to school, while the people in the little countries will starve and be shot at and taken over for their natural resources.
Yes, that sounds ignorant and petty and grim but you and I will agree that the foreign policies of most countries cannot be enforced at face value. At this point in time, most of us can agree that the ultimate goal of the war in Iraq was to establish a stable source of energy for the United States. If the Administration actually went to the public with this fact at the time what then would have been the reaction? But the action was in their point of view necessary and so was carried out, to the benefit of a few and the welfare of America.
If you get a chance, find the stand up comedy of Lewis Black, who made some very good points regarding the continuous lying that the gov engages in. Its not the amount of lies that is the insulting part but rather the shallowness of the lies. The method to defeat an inqusitive public is not to restrict information (as the chinese here do so effectively - and employing many IT people while their at it) but rather to deluge it, forcing people to work to retrieve the minute bits.
There are always some assumptions that are present when the press is engaged, and they are never mentioned so they are not thought of. When the press secretary states what he did above he was reinforcing the lenses through which what he is saying is to be viewed. And the lie will be integrated as part of a clumsy attack on the democrats, which is easy work for the press corp.
Personally, I didn't know what the procedures were for enforcing UN SC Resolutions, and I bet most of the public didn't either. Instead they will now know that the democrats intend to refute the UN an institution of world peace. Swallowing that custard, they swallow the entire pastry of the US role in Iraq and the UN authorization and all.
Review: Build the framework for the future lie out of present and past lies and give the whole shaky artifice to the press so they don't have to work as hard. See, everyone helping everyone else out.
