She steals for the sport of it, because it's fun, because she's good at it. She doesn't need to steal. She became a very rich woman (girl) when her parents had died. She could go her whole life (what little of it there is) and never need another dime.
It isn't about what she needs. It's about what she wants.
She wants everything. Every thrill, every feeling, every delight she can still wring out of the remainder of her life.
