It’s Juliet who tells him. “They’re back.” Two simple words with such a powerful meaning. They’re back. They’re alive. She’s alive.
He doesn’t walk, he runs. He’s vaguely aware that Jack, Sun, Sayid, Hurley are there too, but all he sees is Kate, holding the hand of a three year old boy who can’t be Aaron, but somehow is.
When she sees him, her eyes go wide and she stands perfectly still, as if suddenly frozen in place. Sawyer pulls her into his arms without hesitation and closes his eyes, face buried in her neck. Her hair is straight now, but apart from that, she looks exactly the same as the last time he saw her.
She doesn’t move, except to wrap one arm around him while the other must be holding Aaron close.
When Sawyer opens his eyes, he sees Juliet over Kate’s shoulder, clinging to Jack as if she thinks he’s about to disappear. They look eyes at the same time and there’s an instant understanding between them. They were always destined to be each other’s interim. But now what they had lost has been returned to them; by what design, it doesn’t matter and they hardly care. They both feel as though they are back where they belong, and as quick as they had come together, they let go.
