Okay, here’s the thing. The Layla that the world sees is nothing like the Layla he wakes up next to every morning. Well, she is, but she isn’t. She does read the Bible, and when she can - when they’re not on the road - she goes to church. Everyone sees that girl, the smiling, the reserved woman of faith. Most people who see that think that’s all there is.
They’re dead fucking wrong.
Dean - and, yeah, Sam - see another side of the same girl. A girl who cusses when she stubs her toe on the leg of the coffee table. A girl who has a bottomless stomach to rival Dean’s, and duels forks with him for Sam’s left-overs. A girl who cranks up the radio and sings along as loudly and obnoxiously as anyone.
And, of course, Dean sees, feels more like it, the girl who leaves scratches up and down his back during sex.
She’s a complicated, complex, walking talking juxtaposition of a million different things that seem like they wouldn’t fit, but all come together and make up her. It’s
easy to get swept up in the first impression, in the sweet girl carrying an umbrella that he’d met a lifetime and a half ago. Until she’s asleep and snoring on his shoulder in the front seat of the Impala.
Then he’s pretty much face to face with the girl behind that girl, with the girl that only he’s lucky enough to see. The girl with all the imperfect perfections that it’s so damn hard not to fall in love with - and, fuck him, he tried.
There are so many piece of the puzzle that is Layla Rourke, and he’s gonna spend as much time as they have seeing if he can put them all together. And if he’s really damn lucky, and that takes the rest of their lives, well…so be it.
