My LJ New Years resolution is to comment and post, comment and post. I don't want to be a lurker anymore. So, I'm trying to break the habit. But, it's hard.
So, actual things to say:
I've been working on the Jor-El bio for
svtimeline and I'm stuck at his appearance in Covenant. He's only actually in the last scene in the caves with Clark, Jonathan, and Kara/Lindsay. However, he's talked about for most of the episode. There is a lot of spec about Jor-El in this ep, and even more in fandom about Jor-El's responsibilities wrt "Kara"'s actions. In trying to present an unbiased view, I'm not sure how much spec to include and then how to phrase it.
Meanwhile, over in the TWoP Jor-El thread,
RichardAK speculated that Jor-El is not an AI, but a ghost. He explains his theory that magic (rather than technology) is more consistent with the Jor-El we've seen on the show. It makes quite a bit of sense to me, especially in light of "Kara" calling Jor-El a 'spirit' in Covenant. In addition to his arguments, it would also explain how the Fortress came back to life in Fallout just from Clark's stated intention. What I really like about it, though, is how this theory explains the GSoK plot from Season 4. I love the idea that Kryptonians use runes. The Kryptonian alphabet as used on Smallville has always reminded me of Hebrew, in that letters have layers of deeper meanings.
ETA: The link to RichardAK's post is now fixed, as apparently, TWOP recovered the lost posts for that month. :-)
I'm going to have to find a way to incorporate that into my Krypton prequel. I've put that project on hold for now, though. It's going to have to stay at the halfway point for a bit longer as
svlurker gave me a *Mionel* plot bunny I can't ignore. Her insightful meta on Martha's lack of moral compass (which makes her quite a bit like Lex, doesn't it?) put this idea into my head and now I have to write it down to make it go away. It shocks me that I'm writing Mionel because I don't like to *read* it. It squicks me big time! I like it on the show. This will definately need a beta, especially as I'm not used to writing the characters this way. Anyone up for it in about a week?
Another big fannish surprise for me is my total recent enjoyment of a couple of Clois fics. My favorite fanfic tends to be 1)Chlark or 2)Clex, so reading two good Clois fics inside a week is a big surprise to me.
huzzlewhat wrote a
wonderful futurefic which simply must become widely read because it is beautiful and bittersweet and *perfect* and besides the Clois, there are Martha and Lex moments that made me teary. Also,
leynalynn wrote a
Clois Christmas one-shot. Her Lois voice is both strong and fragile and (to my mind) very true to character. It has Clois snark, Clois vulnerability, and Clois friendship AND it remains true to Smallville. I really liked it. Thus, two surprising fanfic readings in one week. Go figure.
Finally, I'm all squeeful at the spoilers for the next few eps. I can't wait for Thursday! YAY!
