I just got back a paper today that I barely thought about while I was writing it and the mark was 85%. Colour me pleasantly surprised. I so often hand things in without expecting anything, good or bad, in terms of marks. I wonder when that became the norm for me...Lately when I get papers back, the profs (and to a lesser extent the TAs) have been complimenting my writing style. I was told by one TA that she really "enjoyed reading it", which is amazing actually. I don't say that arrogantly, it was just a really boring essay topic. Too many boring essay topics this year.
When I came home yesternight from work, the roomies and I watched Telefrancais (this sort of random you-tubing is a normal occurance in my house). Any Canadians, who actually read this, remember that show? Remember how they thought it would teach our young minds to speak French?
The first episode was just a chilling portrait of absolute denial in the face of a talking-dancing-pimp-cane-wielding pineapple. The two kids just keep saying it is not possible whenever the pineapple did anything at all. That was the whole episode. Also: no structure whatsoever. All of the sudden there was a horrendous puppet woman saying "are you ready to parachute" or some such thing. Then the skelletons...
To which the viewer replies with a supreme "wtf??"
Absolutely hilarious though. Ah, a piece of both my childhood and Canadian "heritage".
I'm surprised by how much I understood, considering how little French I now remember and how little I paid attention in French class. For the longest time "je m'appelle ____" was forever replaced "watashi wa _____ desu".
Apparently beyond English, there is only room for one other language in my head.
Anyway, I am off again. I'll try to update more.
