Something interesting

So I'm bored, and I wrote this little thing, which will be part of "Detours" eventually.  Unlike most of my stories, which have chapters that happen in (roughly) chronological order, one following closely on the other, the chapters in "Detours" and "By the Wayside" will take place days, weeks, months, years, or even decades apart.  Each chapter is going to be a complete story (ish), so I guess they're more like collections of one-shots than actual stories, but as they deal with relationships that take years to form I think this way will be best.  :D  Enjoy!

There were strange women on his TARDIS.  The Doctor was prepared for a great many things:  apocalypses, crises, and general oddness (because really, the universe was a strange, if wonderful, place).  He was not, however, prepared to have his TARDIS randomly invaded by strange women while they were in flight!  It was impossible!  They were in the Time Vortex!   Romana blinked as the blonde woman in the leather jacket brushed off her jeans, and then helped the ginger woman up off of the floor where she'd landed.

The ginger woman groaned.  "I don't care what you say, Mum, I am never going to get used to traveling like that."

The blonde woman, who looked far too young to be anyone's mum, rolled her eyes.  "You an' your dad, Jenny.  S not a TARDIS, but it's the best I've got."

The device in question seemed to be a rather complicated watch that rested on the blonde woman's right wrist.  He frowned.  No--not a watch at all.  In fact, it was something that he hadn't seen in a long time, and something that a human definitely shouldn't posses.  "Is that a pan-universal transportation engine?" he asked in his booming voice.

The ginger girl, Jenny, jumped, but her mum seemed to take it in stride.  She turned around and blinked at the two of them, and then grinned.  It was a flirtatious expression--the tip of her pink tongue poked out just a hint from the side of her  mouth.  "I see your gob carries over," she replied.  "You always do use ten words to say what three will just fine."

She was cheeky, that one.  He opened his mouth to tell her so, but Jenny was up and looking at them and something about her tickled in the back of his mind.  His eyes widened.  She was a Time Lady and the woman in front of them, the blonde woman who was apparently her mother, most definitely was not.   "Oh look, Mum!  They've got matching clothes!" she squealed.  "Why don't you an' Dad ever do that?"

The Doctor glanced at Romana.  They were both still wearing their respective coats and scarves, as they had just returned from a rather chilly planet.  The blonde woman sighed.  "Jenny, it's tweed.  D'you know who wears tweed?"  She didn't wait for the girl to answer.  "Stuffy university professors and your father, that's who."  She gestured to her clothes.  "Besides, I like the leather jacket.  Very Ninth him."

"If I could interrupt," his companion began.  "What exactly is going on here?"

The blonde woman straightened.  "Right.  We just had a bit of a mix-up with our transport."  She gestured to the device on her arm.  "It's set to bring us back to the TARDIS when I hit the emergency recall button and it did exactly what it was programmed to--but this is the wrong TARDIS."

"You're from the future," the Doctor realized.  "My personal future."

The blonde woman smiled fondly at him.  "Knew you were a genius," she teased him gently.  And then she kissed him on the cheek.  Romana stared at her.  The Doctor stared at her.  Jenny rolled her eyes.

"Who are you?" he asked.

She grinned at him again, the cheeky, tongue-touched grin from earlier.  "You'll find out soon," she told him, and then her phone rang.
