Think there might be a resolution between New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson
soon enough to start work on a "Hobbit" film? Guess again.

Robert Shaye, New Line's head honcho, said as far ( Read more... )

Sorry, but having read both this article and PJ's reply to it, I have to disagree with you on this. From what I've read this is a contractual matter and consequently it doesn't matter how much money PJ and company got from New Line, if it wasn't as much as specified in the contract then he deserves to be paid what was agreed on. PJ had asked for an independent audit and New Line refused forcing PJ to sue.

Robert Shaye is acting like a spoiled brat who's taking the whole thing personally. PJ and company are behaving in a much more professional manner.

Here's a link to PJ's reply.

Oh gods no Anna :D, the article is verbatim from LOTRInfo - I don't know enough about the issue to have an opinion other than feeling sad. I just think the whole thing is incredibley depressing.

As a fan i just want the stupid mess sorted so that PJ can get to work and I'm sure a large proportion of the huge fangirl/boy horde is of the same opinion - if the project does go ahead, we all want PJ to direct. But with Shaye's comments about him never working with them again it seems unlikley. *woe*

OOh thankie for the link. It certainly takes a lot of spin out of the above article. makes you think too. It strikes me as odd that NL refused an independant audit if they are supposedly commonplace in the industry.

Aww, isi! (((Hugs))) Actually I was disagreeing (hopefully very politely and in a friendly manner!) with mnemosyne_1 about being upset with PJ! I've been following the whole mess surrounding the making of the Hobbit and the lawsuit for quite a long time now through the postings at lordoftherings and was fairly certain that neither you nor mnemosyne_1 had seen the articles giving the other side of the story ( ... )

:D 'unique and creative'

funny how those two words can be the best of compliments and the worst of insults at the same time! ^__^

The links to the original stories sound interesting (and very depressing) reading! I'll check out lordoftherings when i feel brave enough to handle that much depression fueled info. argh its just so messy. thanks for offering to find the links!

Depressing as it is, reading about the whole mess does give a better perspective on what's really going on.
On the plus side, the studio that acquires the rights to The Hobbit once New Line's expires -yeah, there's a time limit involved- (MGM I think) stated - after all the hoopla about New Line banning PJ - that they would LOVE to have him direct it if they end up being the studio to make the film.
