Comment on this post and I will choose seven interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.
Daisy chains: Does this even need an explanation? If I'm sitting anywhere with daisies, I will make daisy chains. Necklaces, bracelets, whatever, they're just addictive. I think it's kind of like a nervous habit, it's calming and I'm such a fidgeter that it's good that it gives me something to do with my hands.
Dandyism: Over the last couple of years I've slowly been cultivating a growing interest in the 19th century, especially the dandies. They were just complete aesthetes, they dressed well, they were cynicists and romantics at the same time, and in my head they're inextricably mixed up with Oscar Wilde and the pre-Raphaelites.
Faeries: Yeah, I was never one of those girls who went through a phase of being obsessed with pink fairies when I was little. I was more interested in dinosaurs and Greek mythology. But since I've been a teenager I've loved the idea of fairies more and more. Peter Pan's obviously a big influence, but so's Holly Black's work (see below) and the medieval concepts of fairies and fae as full-sized, slightly sinister creatures.
Fencing: Fencing means you get to hit people with swords. What's not to like? You're doing frigging sword fighting! I'm absolutely atrocious at it, but it's still so enjoyable.
Tithe: Tithe by Holly Black is one of my favourite books. It's a contemporary story with faeries and awesomeness. Everyone must read it, it's fantastic, and the sequel, Ironside, is even better.
Neekiness: For you non-London-people - because I've had to explain this to foreigners before - a neek is a geek. Or a dork. Or whatever, it's like the word you use. But being a neek is so much more fun that pandering to the styles of all the people who think that by wearing nu-rave shirts and skinny jeans that they're being so individual and so, like, anti-mainstream.
Urban fantasy: Of which Tithe is one. It's just cool juxtaposing fairytale-style fantasy and the modern world.
