The loud-mouth Maline

Justine, Charlotte, and Maline are 10-week-old Belgian Malinois Sheepdogs. These are not German Shepherds-- read the AKC description here. This working breed is typically used for search and rescue and police work. Because of their high working drive, these are the dogs trained to go after their target and hold on until told to release. Needless to say, this is one very intense breed, not usually kept as a family pet. The only other Malinois we've had at the shelter was an adult male who was not very friendly (see: "cat eater").

These three pups arrived at Buddy Dog from a shelter in Puerto Rico. They had been left at a feed and grain store by their breeder, who preferred males to females. Can you believe no one wanted these babies!

Because this can be a tough and even dangerous breed, we have to be selective about who adopts them. One of the pups has been placed with a person who has been visiting the shelter for months looking for a buddy for his Border Collie. It was a happy coincidence that these pups arrived, because it's the perfect breed for someone who understands the needs of the herding/working breed. The others will be placed in similar situations, possibly with the assistance of the local Malinois rescue group.
