as a girl whos a tenant and a landlord there are millions of things to look for but it all depends on the situation.
If your renting an apartment: 1. is your hydro, cable, internet included (if not how much extra). 2. if internet is it wireless 3. can walls be painted if so do they want them painted back to white. 4. conditions of the lease. 5. do you need to pay first and last. 6. does the building have noise, animal, smoking, bbq rules. 7. make sure they'll give you 48hrs notice if they're going to come into your apartment (that's a law but some landlords don't listen to it) 8. how old/new are things like your fridge and stove
If your renting a room all the above still applies + : 1. how do they divide up chores and purchasing things everyone will use like toilet paper, cleaning supplies etc. 2. do you have your own bathroom etc. 3. if you need to bring things like dishes, furnature. 4. what their scheduals/sleeping habbits are like because that needs to be compatible.
and if you move in with other people make sure you sit down and figure out everything before hand otherwise it will just cause lots of problems later even if you are all friends. And get everything in writing and signed by everyone your living with. Trust me. People will fuck you over if they can because that's just how they do. I've had a lot of crappy roommates in the last 2yrs and you need to cover your ass.
