THE suck.

OK, I must admit one of my faults. It's a big, important one ( Read more... )

I don't think you should have to sit through 7 episodes of something to determine if it sucks or not. Maybe Andre saw one episode and it made her hurl.

Anyway, my real point is this. Woudln't it be better, if this is really about you, to admit fault without pointing out fault in others? It's not really an admission of wrongdoing if all you're doing is placing yourself in the mixing bowl of humanity. Fess up!

See, I think you missed my point. Yeah, I'm pissed at myself when I say something sucks and I really don't have any reason to think so. But I'm more pissed at myself when others do it and it suddenly makes me go "You shouldn't say that!" I'm admitting that I'm a hypocrite when it comes to that stuff, not that I do it. I'm saying that everyone does that, including me, so my wrongdoing is getting defensive and frustrated about it.

I think it was this phrase right here that made me think you were more placing yourself in genus homo.
"But most of you probably suck too for that same reason. "

See, you can't say "I suck, but so do you" and think that represents an admission of guilt. And everyone YOUR age might do that, but I'm trying to think of someone outside your age that does that, and I really can't think of anyone. Not even the office suck-ups. They agree with ideas, but not with opinions. Of course, that is based on my peer group, which is pretty much restricted to middle-management and musicians. So, it may be different for people my age who work in sales or something. Who knows. I don't even know if I do that. Anyway, you can't call yourself a hypocrite and call the rest of the world sinners in the same breath. That would make you a double-hypocrite (here's where I get weird) which you haven't fessed up to being, which means you're being hypocritical about being a hypocrite. In which case you might as well not have noticed the first layer of ( ... )

Do "most" and "probably" mean exactly the same thing as "all" and "definitely" nowadays?
I took into account when I wrote it that MOST people who are reading this journal are members of my age group. And even of them, I know not all of them do it. And my point was still that I should be more honest with myself and not get angry when people say things that they aren't qualified to say. Because I know I do it too. I had two points I made:
1) People should be more honest and knowledgeable when they make value assessments. Including me.
2) I should stop getting angry when people aren't honest or knowledgeable when people make their value assessments.
I never claimed that everybody does it. And I'm sorry you thought I did.
