* what you would like to do is research on the works of alan moore, who has for teh longest time been toying with the idea of "real" superheroes,or variations thereof.
* most notably, moore's "watchmen" deals in a world where superheroes are real. it is not their powers that define define them; for indeed, aside from the god-like mr. manhattan, all the others are just regular people who are so fixated on the idea of superheroism and/or train a lot to their phytsical limits.
* the drama in watchmen is very real, involving government conspiracies, search for meaning and purpose, betrayal, psychosis, etc... think batman made just a tad bit more believable.
* another moore work is the series "top 10." in a completely different twist, what moore does here is he takes the idea of super-powered beings as real -- the "ancestors" of which were the science heroes of WWII, whose decendants experienced the continual development of their gene experiments and whatnot -- but he restricts them to just one city; an olympus, if you will. the idea here is that, if just about everybody has powers of some sort, what's to define a person as above the rest? i.e. super powers are an everyday thing. this series has been compared to the classic "astro city" comic books (i suggest reading those too). also most recently, it has been cited as a major inspiration -- along with "astro city," of course -- for the "house of M" storyline in the x-men comics.
* yet another moore work -- and one i'm sure you have heard of -- is the league of extraordinary gentlemen. and no, i do not mean the nonsensical brouhaha that is the movie "adaptation" (if you could call it that), but rather the comics original. no superheroes, just extraordinary people (extraordinary enough to warrant themselves as timeless classic characters), put to believable yet still equally extraordinary circumstances. well... believable at least in the context of speculative literature :D
and there are my bullets. i hope nakatulong kahit papaano. naubusan ako ng ingles wakokokoko ;p i love you ÜÜÜ
