The
Geograph British Isles project is one in which the organizers hope that in the end, every square meter of the UK will be photographed, uploaded, and appropriate metadata assigned to each image for future geographers/genealogists to use in understanding the culture there today.
What an amazing project.
BTW, I found the Geograph British Isles site through
Synaptica Central -- a blog on taxonomy-ontology and related topics which is supported by staff from DowJones Factiva. Factiva is a database used by independent information entrepreneurs which provides access to the "deep web" at a reasonable cost. I quite enjoyed the blog post entitled
Classifying images Part 3 (long and some might say 'tedious'). For those of you who are not natural-born cataloging librarians, this may give you some insight into the way that I (among others) think. If you run away screaming, well, that's your choice.
